Dr. Bryan Brister, MPI director, will chair the Advanced Polymers section of the Advanced Materials Research Exchange at The Oak Ridge National Laboratory on May 31 in Oak Ridge, TN. The event showcases and connects the South's research assets in the advanced materials of carbon fiber, composites and lightweight metals for transportation industries. Hosted by the Southern Advanced Materials in Transportation Alliance (SAMTA) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the event will include short presentations by ORNL and university researchers from across the South; meet-the-researcher facilitated session; company panel commenting on industry research and trends; and future activities brainstorming session. Robert Thompson, Heather Leighow and Ty Posey will have an exhibition booth at the MMA (Mississippi Manufacturers Association) 60th Annual Convention at the Beau Rivage May 30-June 1. This year's theme, "Manufacturing Renaissance," will provide a forum to address not only economic recovery, but also issues such as innovation, skilled workforce and global competition. Speakers for the convention include Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff and senior advisor to President George W. Bush; Mississippi Gov Phil Bryant, who was elected last November; and Paul Gallo, the host of The Gallo Show on SuperTalk Mississippi.

Robert Thompson, MPI's Operations Leader, will be attending the 5th Annual SEUS-CP Conference, May 20-22 in Myrtle Beach, SC. The business program will connect companies, researchers, organizations and associations who are seeking new business partners, sales, collaboration and investment partnerships. Such organizations include distributors, agents/brokers, manufacturers, information technology service providers, universities or other researchers who work in manufacturing, intellectual technology, energy and advanced research. SC Gov. Nikki Haley is the conference host, joined by co-host David Alward, New Brunswick’s Premier. The business program will be Chaired by David Wilkins, the former U.S. Ambassador to Canada.
